A new documentary for the children of Åland
The life of young children in Africa is something that the children on Åland are very curious to know. For the subject of his first documentary film Långt Bort (Far Away), Hej Åland founder Alieu Khan opted to focus on that area.
With support from the Åland Local Government, he recently travelled to his native country and together with his local cameraman they followed the activities of two 9-year olds in Brikama, one of The Gambia's biggest towns.
In this interview Alieu tells more about the documentary;
Are you satisfied with the production?
It was a completely new venture. The production is not the best but i am absulately proud of what i did with the aid of Muhammed Gomez (the local cameraman).
Tell us briefly about the documentary.
It's a 20-minutes documentary featuring two children, Salaam and Neneh. The ducumentary helps to provide the answers to most of the questions i am frequently asked when i visit schools to talk about Africa and cultural diversity on the island.
Now that the documentary is done, what's next?
I have started visiting schools to show the documentary. On the 15th December, i was in Övernäs Skola and the children were so exciting. . After the christmas break, i hope to visit more schools.
Anything you would like to say.
Special thanks to the Local Government for the support and also my local team in The Gambia.
